KKU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Showcases Thai Higher Education at Thai Festival 2026 in Beijing

The initiative promotes academic programmes and cultural exchange to enhance Sino-Thai educational collaboration.

The Centre for Thai Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, participated in the “Thai Festival 2026” from 30 to 31 May 2026 at Chaoyang Park in Beijing, People’s Republic of China. The university’s delegation was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Isareth Dolphen, Director of the Centre for Thai Language and Culture, alongside Dr. Deng Meilin, who jointly managed the institutional exhibition booth.

The principal objective of this participation was to promote Khon Kaen University’s (KKU) academic programmes across all degree levels, whilst highlighting the specialist curriculum offered by the Centre for Thai Language and Culture. This initiative directly aligns with the strategic policy of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) to foster Sino-Thai higher education partnerships, expand academic networks, and facilitate cross-cultural exchanges between the two nations.

At the KKU exhibition booth, visitors engaged in creative learning experiences designed to immerse them in Thai language and traditions. Interactive highlights included a do-it-yourself (DIY) workshop where participants practised writing Thai words on canvas tote bags, and a cultural demonstration on crafting ‘Tung Sai Moo’ (pig-intestine flags), a traditional folk handicraft from Northeast Thailand. All participants were invited to take their handmade creations and institutional souvenirs home free of charge.

The educational activities attracted a large number of Chinese students and members of the public, drawing a steady stream of visitors throughout the two-day festival. The Thai calligraphy workshop on canvas bags proved particularly popular, with large numbers of attendees queuing to learn and practise writing Thai script. This enthusiastic turnout reflects the considerable interest among Chinese visitors in the Thai language, cultural heritage, and educational opportunities in Thailand.

Many attendees also inquired about the university’s Thai language courses, international programmes, and general admission pathways. The level of engagement made the KKU pavilion one of the most prominent features of the festival, raising the international visibility of Khon Kaen University considerably. The university’s participation in Thai Festival 2026 marks another milestone for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in projecting Thai education internationally and reinforcing bilateral relations and educational cooperation between Thailand and the People’s Republic of China.
