Khon Kaen University Welcomes Students from The Lao-American Institute, Lao PDR, for Environmental Education Study Visit

On 29 May 2026, at 13:00 hrs, a formal reception was held at the 50th Anniversary Engineering Building Meeting Room, Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University. Assoc. Prof. Panithan Jutaporn, Ph.D., Chair of the Bachelor of Engineering Programme in Environmental Engineering, alongside Assoc. Prof. Rattaban Khanphonoi, Asst. Prof. Chatchawal Aiyathiti, and Assoc. Prof. Surapon Phadungthon, faculty members of the Department of Environmental Engineering, warmly welcomed a student delegation from The Lao-American Institute, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). The delegation visited the university to observe environmental education management and the development of academic expertise in environmental fields.

During the session, the faculty members delivered comprehensive academic lectures on critical global environmental challenges and foundational frameworks. The key topics presented included Wastewater Treatment Systems, Air Pollution Monitoring (with a particular focus on PM2.5 particulate matter), and Solid Waste Management. Additionally, postgraduate students from the Environmental Engineering programme engaged with the visitors to exchange insights regarding curriculum delivery, academic activities, and student life at Khon Kaen University, before guiding them on a tour of the department’s specialised laboratories.

Subsequently, the delegation visited the Faculty of Science, where they were received by Assoc. Prof. Sarun Kiatmaraleestit, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Environmental Science. Assoc. Prof. Kiatmaraleestit delivered an academic briefing on fundamental water quality analysis techniques, including Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), pH values, and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). The itinerary also included a technical session on air pollution measurement methodologies, led by expert guest speakers Assoc. Prof. Lamai Neeratanaphan, Ph.D. and Asst. Prof. Nuchanart Chamchoi, Ph.D., followed by a guided tour of the environmental science laboratories.

The primary objectives of this study visit were to promote international academic collaboration, enhance practical learning experiences, and facilitate the exchange of institutional knowledge regarding environmental education and laboratory management. This collaborative initiative is anticipated to significantly advance the development of sustainable environmental management strategies across regional and international levels.
