Khon Kaen University has selected 7 innovative works to present at the Thailand Research Expo 2020, a national stage that presents quality research, technology, and innovation. It is a creative force that drives the mechanism to support and develop national research and innovation, and is a knowledge base for users at both the national and international levels. It drives medical and public health innovations, including prevention, relief, and treatment methods for the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019, along with a discussion on “Overcoming the COVID-19 crisis with medical innovation” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University.
On August 8, reporters in Khon Kaen Province reported that on August 2-6, at the Centara Grand Hotel and Bangkok Convention Center, Central World, Bangkok, the National Research Office (NRCT), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), together with network agencies in the research system nationwide, organized the 15th “Thailand Research Expo 2020” under the concept of “Research for National Development towards Security, Prosperity and Sustainability”. This year, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the opening ceremony on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Centara Grand Hotel and Bangkok Convention Center, Central World, Bangkok.
Activities in the 15th National Research Expo 2020 (Thailand Research Expo 2020) are divided into various formats: a conference session on various issues important to the development and solving problems of the country through research and innovation, an exhibition session, a presentation session on quality research, a Higher Education Innovation Contest 2020 activity to encourage students at all levels from higher education institutions who have cultivated knowledge and inspiration in developing innovations to present their innovative works and compete, and a session on organizing the awards ceremony for the National Research Expo 2020.
On the same occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, was honored to be a speaker in the discussion on “Overcoming the COVID-19 Crisis with Medical Innovation” (Biomedical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence), along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bundit Eua-arporn, President of Chulalongkorn University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Banjong Mahaisavariya, President of Mahidol University, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somkiat Wattanasirichaikul, President of the Thai Biomedical Engineering Association on August 2, 2020 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the World Ballroom, 23rd floor, Centara Grand Hotel and Bangkok Convention Center, CentralWorld, Bangkok. Many interested people joined the discussion.
For Khon Kaen University, there were 7 works from researchers and students who were selected to join the competition and present the innovations of higher education in 2020: 1. Clinical and antimicrobial work of using turmeric extract in gel form and blue light in the photodynamic therapy process combined with conservative periodontitis treatment 2. Effects of silica dioxide on the stability and texture of sunscreen in emulsion form 3. Natural oleamide 4. Photosensitizer mixed for targeted antifungal photodynamic therapy 5. Serum for hair follicle cells 6. Natural shampoo and 7. Amayrin for treating acne and inflammation. In this presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thidarat Boonmas, Vice President for Innovation and Enterprise, Khon Kaen University, visited the innovations from Khon Kaen University displayed at the event and gave encouraging talks. The results will be announced on August 5, 2020.
For the organization of the “Thailand Research Expo 2020” for the 15th time, it is a national stage that presents quality research, technology and innovation. It is a creative force that drives the mechanism to support and develop research and innovation of the country. It is a knowledge base for users at both the national and international levels. It drives innovation in medicine and public health, including prevention, relief and treatment of the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), as well as preparing for the situation of emerging diseases with research and innovation. It has been continuously organized since 2006 with good cooperation between research network agencies nationwide, relevant sectors and the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). This year is the 15th year of the event. Academic works in 6 groups are presented, covering research in medicine and public health, society, energy and the environment, education, arts, culture, architecture and creative tourism, agriculture and the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises and community enterprises.
