The Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, led by Assoc. Prof. Issara Kanjak, Ph.D.,Dean of the Faculty of Education, continues to advance its academic community service mission. Associate Professor Danita Duangvilai, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Model School Development and Proactive Marketing, along with 15 lecturers and first-year students from the Thai Language Teaching programme, visited the Khon Kaen Juvenile Observation and Protection Center on 3 April 2026. They organised the “Academic and Vocational Skill Development Project for Youth in Juvenile Delinquency Centers,” with Mr. Pitak Panthamas, Director of the Khon Kaen Juvenile Observation and Protection Centres, presiding over the opening ceremony.
The project was conducted under the concept of “creating educational opportunities and reducing inequality” to promote access to education for all, especially children and youth in juvenile delinquency centres who have been deprived of educational opportunities. The aim is to provide them with access to fundamental education while also developing supplementary skills that will boost their self-confidence and enable them to cope with life’s challenges. This equips them for effective reintegration into society.
Activities included a workshop on “Language Skill Development for Occupations” and group relations activities. Expert speakers, including Assistant Professor Buanguen Thongthai and Assistant Professor Sukuman Ekkaram from Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, along with students from the Thai Language Teaching programme who served as facilitators and mentors, led the sessions. The focus was on developing communication skills for professional readiness, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to engage with society constructively and collaboratively.
Associate Professor Danita Duangvilai, Ph.D., the project leader, stated the objective of this initiative: “The Faculty of Education recognises the importance of developing every child and youth to their full potential and nurturing strong citizens for the nation. This collaborative effort to create educational opportunities is not merely about imparting academic knowledge. The core essence is ‘providing opportunities’ and building self-confidence in these youths, so they see their own value, possess vocational skills, and are ready to proudly re-enter society.”
This project is one of the key academic community service missions of the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University. The Faculty remains committed to integrating academic knowledge and innovative learning to tangibly improve the quality of life for people in the community and to help foster a sustainable learning society. This is achieved by creating opportunities and reducing educational inequality to empower all youth to develop their full potential and enter society with confidence, leaving no one behind.
