ECON KKU Rebranding: Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Economics Steps Towards a New Role as “A Leading GMS Faculty of Economics, Excellent in Practical Economics”

The Faculty of Economics, Khon Kaen University, announces its significant rebranding, embarking on a new path and unveiling a new vision to become “A leading Faculty of Economics in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), excellent in practical economics.” This endeavor is driven by ESG and GMS concepts, aiming to develop human capital, create knowledge, and foster sustainable change.  

 

This rebranding of the Faculty of Economics at Khon Kaen University stems from a strong commitment to elevate its role and potential, gaining international recognition, particularly within the GMS region. The GMS comprises Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and China’s Yunnan Province. The objectives are to elevate the standard of teaching and research in practical economics to excellence within the GMS, produce quality graduates with skills that meet national and international labor market demands, generate knowledge and research with positive impacts on regional economic and social development, and drive sustainable development in accordance with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework.    

Associate Professor Dr. Sutin Wiwiwat, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Khon Kaen University, stated, “This rebranding is not merely a change in image, but a declaration of the new stance and direction for Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Economics as it rises to become a leading economics institution in the Greater Mekong Subregion. We believe that practical economics education, coupled with quality research and international cooperation networks, is the key to producing graduates ready to face the challenges of the new era.”

The Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Khon Kaen University, further added, “Under this new vision, the Faculty of Economics will concretely drive development through ESG and GMS concepts. This includes developing sustainable curriculum, building cooperation networks with leading educational institutions and organizations in the GMS region, and producing research that generates positive impacts on the economic and social development of the country and the region. We are ready to develop human capital, create knowledge, and foster sustainable change together.”

This rebranding of the Faculty of Economics at Khon Kaen University is driven by two main pillars:

ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance): This is a sustainability framework encompassing environmental, social, and governance dimensions. The faculty will integrate this concept into teaching, research, and organizational management to produce graduates who are socially and environmentally responsible.

GMS (Greater Mekong Subregion): This reflects the faculty’s commitment to becoming an academic hub for economics in the Greater Mekong Subregion, through building cooperation networks with various educational institutions and organizations in the region, organizing international academic activities, and producing research related to economic issues in the GMS.
