KKU Law Student Wins Inaugural Lawyers TED Talk National Competition, Bringing Honour to the Faculty

Bangkok, Thailand – Miss Nonthamon Ua-fuea, a student from the Faculty of Law at Khon Kaen University, has brought great honour to her faculty and the university by winning the first prize at the inaugural “Lawyers TED Talk: The Role of Thai Lawyers in International Law” competition. The event was held in celebration of Lawyers’ Day 2026.

 
On Thursday, 19 February 2026, Miss Nonthamon Ua-fuea secured the championship title, which included a scholarship of THB 20,000 and a plaque of honour. The competition took place at the lecture hall on the 4th floor of the Lawyers Council of Thailand Under the Royal Patronage, located on Phahonyothin Road, Anusawari, Bang Khen, Bangkok.
 
 

The competition began with an initial screening of applicants through written submissions and video clips. The top ten highest-scoring candidates were invited to compete in the preliminary round at the Lawyers Council of Thailand building. This year, the ten finalists represented a wide range of leading educational institutions from across the country, including Thammasat University, Sripatum University Chonburi Campus, Suan Dusit University, Srinakharinwirot University, Khon Kaen University, Rangsit University, Bangkok University, and Ramkhamhaeng University.

Two students from the KKU Faculty of Law qualified for the preliminary round:

  1. Miss Kanruethai Kokkontha, a fourth-year student
  2. Miss Nonthamon Ua-fuea, a second-year student

The students were mentored and supervised throughout the competition by Assistant Professor Tanrat Khun-ngen and Mr. Pitak Thaicharoen.

In the final round, the three contestants with the highest scores from the preliminary stage presented on the topic, “Justice Without Courtrooms: The Power of Alternative Dispute Resolution,” a significant and contemporary issue in the context of international law today. The final results were as follows:

  • Winner: Miss Nonthamon Ua-fuea from the Faculty of Law, Khon Kaen University, who received a THB 20,000 scholarship and a plaque of honour.
  • First Runner-Up: Miss Pornpanpa Sangthong from Rangsit University, who received a THB 10,000 scholarship.
  • Second Runner-Up: Mr. Theerasit Rakbuathong from Srinakharinwirot University, who received a THB 5,000 scholarship.

After receiving her award, Miss Nonthamon Ua-fuea remarked, “I am delighted and very proud to receive this award on behalf of the Faculty of Law, Khon Kaen University. This competition has allowed me to seriously learn about and develop my English presentation skills on international legal issues. I would like to thank all the faculty members at KKU Law for their unwavering support and for always encouraging students to reach their full potential.”

This achievement is another source of immense pride for the Faculty of Law at Khon Kaen University. It demonstrates the students’ ability to excel and build a reputation on a national stage, reflecting their academic preparedness and international-level English communication skills. This success is a direct result of the faculty’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded students equipped for the legal profession, both now and in the future.
