Khon Kaen University and Udon Thani Province Collaborate on Data Dashboard to Tackle Drug Problem

UDON THANI – Khon Kaen University (KKU) is partnering with Udon Thani provincial authorities to develop a “Province Data Dashboard,” a new tool designed to support a data-driven and proactive approach to combating the region’s drug problem.

A recent working group meeting was convened at the Udon Thani Provincial Hall and chaired by Associate Professor Dr Supasit Konyai, Deputy Director of KKU’s Academic Service Bureau and Deputy Project Leader. The meeting aimed to define the data architecture and framework required to support the Provincial Governor’s integrated management strategy.

The discussion prioritised the province’s urgent “Agenda A” policy, which focuses on drug prevention and suppression. This agenda is a key strategic performance indicator (KPI) for the Ministry of Interior for the 2026 fiscal year. To address this, the dashboard will integrate crucial data sets across three main dimensions:

  •  Prevention: Information on inspections of entertainment venues and the establishment of security checkpoints.
  • Suppression: Statistics on drug-related arrests and quantities of seized narcotics.
  • Treatment: Data on the number of individuals undergoing rehabilitation and the actual bed capacity of treatment facilities.

Udon Thani has entrusted Khon Kaen University with the lead role in developing the dashboard, citing the university’s expertise in technical data management and its qualified personnel. The goal is to provide provincial leaders with a modern and reliable database for targeted, area-based problem-solving and to enhance seamless collaboration among relevant agencies.

This initiative also forms part of “Agenda D – Digital Development,” a national programme under which Udon Thani has been selected as one of ten pilot provinces. The recent meeting represents a significant milestone in integrating multi-source data into a unified dashboard platform, paving the way for a sustainable and technology-driven mechanism to address pressing public concerns.
