KKU Partners with ‘Ruam Suk Centre’ to Enhance Financial Literacy for Persons with Disabilities, Caregivers, and Community Networks

On 10 February 2026, the Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability, Professor Thidarut Boonmars, D.V.M., Ph.D., along with her working team from Khon Kaen University (KKU), attended the opening ceremony for the project “Enhancing Financial Literacy, Savings, and Access to Disability Rights and Welfare.” This project falls under the collaborative initiative to establish and drive the ‘Ruam Suk Centre’ (Centre for Shared Happiness), aiming to tangibly translate the University’s knowledge into societal benefit.

The opening ceremony was honoured by the presence of Ms. Chuan Chom Chanthawong, Inspector General of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), who presided over the event. Ms. Sophin Suwannahong, Khon Kaen Provincial Social Development and Human Security Officer, reported on the project’s objectives. Executives from the MSDHS units in Khon Kaen Province, the Mayor of Ban Ped Municipality, and representatives from Krungthai Bank Public Company Limited were also in attendance.

This project responds directly to Thailand’s transition into a complete aged society and forms part of the national policy initiative, “MSDHS Near You: Reduce Expenses, Generate Income, Restart Life.” This policy is spearheaded by Mr. Akara Phromphao, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, and focuses on enhancing financial stability and quality of life for target populations at the local level through integrated cooperation across all sectors.

The target participants for this activity included 60 individuals, comprising personal assistants for persons with disabilities, caregivers, and social development and human security volunteers (SDHSVs). Krungthai Bank Public Company Limited provided expert speakers who delivered sessions on debt management, savings, raising awareness of online scam dangers, and strategies for preventing and responding to cyber threats in the digital era.

Crucially, the programme also aims to improve understanding of legal rights and welfare benefits to ensure that persons with disabilities can access protection and assistance from government agencies comprehensively and equitably. This effort is designed to sustainably elevate the quality of life for persons with disabilities and their families in the long term.
