The Khon Kaen University College of Local Administration (COLA KKU) executives and personnel recently met with the Institute of General Education (GE) to review and understand the policy governing General Education management at Khon Kaen University, B.E. 2568, which will be implemented across all undergraduate programmes starting in Academic Year 2570 (2027). The meeting took place on 28 January 2026 at the College of Local Administration.
The policy announcement mandates the use of this new General Education structure for all undergraduate programmes, including both regular and international curricula. Implementation will commence from Academic Year 2570 onwards for both new and revised programmes.
Key features of this reform include:
- Programmes must designate a General Education component comprising a minimum of 24 credits.
- The structural formation must shift from defining content solely as “courses” to defining them as “Learning Cores.”
- There will be broader guidelines for developing and managing General Education courses and instruction.
One of the central themes emerging from the GE policy briefing was the opportunity for faculties and colleges to design and develop new courses with greater flexibility.
This presents a strategic opportunity for the College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University, to advance its Course Marketplace initiative. COLA will leverage the specific expertise of its lecturers across various fields, including Public Affairs Administration, Public Policy, Local Development, Smart Cities, Finance, Digital Public Sector Management, and practical field operations.
From Expertise to New Course Development
The College of Local Administration is committed to developing General Education courses that are:
- Contemporary
- Linked to real-world contexts
- Responsive to the skills students desire and society demands
This shift ensures that students undertake learning not merely for credits, but to gain knowledge that is directly applicable in their lives and careers.
This transition marks a change in COLA’s role from merely an “offering faculty” to a “creator of educational value.” COLA is ready to drive this new learning paradigm and contribute to the enhancement of Khon Kaen University’s education for the future.
