KKU Physical Therapy Elevates Sports Services, Launches Sport PT Mobile Clinic

From January 5-8, 2025, the Physical Therapy Program, Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Khon Kaen University, led by faculty members, physical therapists, and over 70 undergraduate and graduate physical therapy students, jointly launched the Sport PT Mobile Clinic to provide physical therapy services for athletes injured during training and competition, including injuries related to sports performance and exercise.

The activities were held at KKU Sport Complex, Sports Division, Khon Kaen University, to prepare KKU athletes for participation in the Thailand University Games, and at PS Badminton Court, Khon Kaen Province, in collaboration with Northeast Academy Club to care for both professional and amateur athletes, totaling over 100 individuals.

On this occasion, the Physical Therapy Program was honored to have Mr. Anurak Tatha, Head Coach of Northeast Academy Club, an internationally recognized expert, serve as a guest speaker for a hands-on workshop on assessing athletes’ body structure and performance using sports science principles, as well as training planning integrated with physical therapy treatment for faculty members and students.

Assistant Professor Dr. Kurusart Konhan revealed that the services found most athletes had injuries in the knees, hips, legs, shoulders, hands, back, and ankles. They received comprehensive physical therapy treatment using various techniques, including electrical muscle stimulation and pain relief, heat and cold therapy combined with ultrasound, elastic and sports taping to stimulate muscle function or limit inappropriate movements, strength and balance exercises, and education on injury prevention and athlete healthcare.

Additionally, there was knowledge exchange on training and athlete care in various sports directly with athletes and coaches. These activities are expected to enhance understanding, skills, and concepts in sports physical therapy management, leading to the development of innovations in care, body structure correction, and athlete performance enhancement in an integrated manner with sports medicine teams.

This activity also serves as an important clinical experience site for sports physical therapy students and marks the beginning of future academic and professional collaboration.

The Physical Therapy Program would like to thank the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Khon Kaen University, for supporting the project implementation, and all parties involved for their generous cooperation, enabling physical therapy students to learn from real situations and see the application of knowledge from assessment, injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, to systematic athlete performance development, which will lead to student development in line with the expected identity.
