On Thursday, 8 January 2026, at 14:00 hrs, the Department of Music and Performing Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, hosted an international educational exchange programme entitled “SOUND SCENE SYNC” at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts Theatre. The programme was organised in collaboration with Han Dong Global University, Republic of Korea.
The initiative aimed to strengthen international academic cooperation in music and performing arts education, enhance teaching and research capabilities, and promote professional and cultural exchange between Thailand and the Republic of Korea.
The visiting delegation from Han Dong Global University was led by Dr. Koono Kim, Director of the RC Holistic Education Institution, and comprised over 100 faculty members and students from the Republic of Korea. In parallel, over 100 faculty members, students, and staff from Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts participated. The event also benefited from the cooperation of faculty and students from the Korean Language Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, who attended the performances and joined a Korean–Thai language workshop designed to simultaneously reinforce linguistic and cultural understanding.
The event was honoured by the presence of Assistant Professor Suksanti Wangwan, Assistant to the President for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Khon Kaen University, who presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome address to the Han Dong Global University delegates and participants.
Assistant Professor Suksanti stated: “Khon Kaen University places great importance on leveraging arts and culture as a fundamental mechanism for fostering mutual international learning. Art—particularly music and performance—serves as a universal language capable of deeply connecting people across different cultures. This SOUND SCENE SYNC activity is therefore not just a platform for exchanging academic and professional knowledge; it is also a space for friendship, cooperation, and the creation of shared artistic and cultural value between Thailand and the Republic of Korea.”
In addition, Associate Professor Burin Plengdeesakul, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, extended his welcome to the visiting delegation. He highlighted the Faculty’s commitment to advancing teaching, research, and artistic creation alongside the promotion of the creative economy. He expressed confidence that the programme would lead to long-term collaboration, including student and faculty exchanges, joint creative productions and performances, and interdisciplinary research linking art, culture, and society for tangible community and national benefit. He reaffirmed the Faculty’s role as an open and dynamic centre for international creative learning.
For the performance section of the programme, Han Dong Global University presented five artistic sets:
- Chamber Ensemble
- Korean Traditional Dance
- Korean Folk Music
- Band
- Dance
The Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, also presented two sets:
- A Chamber performance by students from the Western Music Department.
- A Fawn Lueam Lai (Sparkling Pattern Dance) performance by students from the Folk Music and Dramatic Arts Department.
Following the performances, both parties engaged in a workshop exchange session. Grouped by specific interests, participants exchanged ideas, rehearsal processes, creative techniques, and cultural perspectives. This ensured a deep, immersive learning experience for faculty members and students from both countries.
The SOUND SCENE SYNC programme marks another significant milestone for the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, in advancing its mission across education, arts and culture, and the creative economy on an international scale. It successfully established a robust network of cooperation, which promises to enhance academic potential and generate valuable creations for society in the future.
