Physical Therapy Program Brings Expertise to the Field, Caring for Runners at the 21st Khon Kaen International Marathon

On January 11, 2025, the Physical Therapy Program, Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Khon Kaen University, organized a project to provide physical therapy services for athletes at the 21st Khon Kaen International Marathon 2025. The project was led by Dr.Settapong  Nongharnpitak, along with faculty members, physical therapists, and physical therapy students, who jointly provided care for more than 2,500 marathon runners.

Dr.Settapong  Nongharnpitak explained that the initiative translated sports physical therapy knowledge into real-world practice, enhancing athlete safety and performance while offering students valuable community-based learning. Students gained hands-on experience in interprofessional teamwork alongside practitioners from multiple disciplines. This year, services were further enhanced with advanced treatment modalities, including ultrasound therapy and electrical stimulation, delivered by licensed physical therapists and graduate students to support injured runners effectively.

The event atmosphere was lively and welcoming, filled with fun activities, singing, and promotional campaigns inviting participants, which received an excellent response, reflecting the dedication and commitment to using professional skills for the greatest benefit to society.
