Khon Kaen University Hosts Student Leadership Debate Ahead of 2026 Elections

Khon Kaen University (KKU) held a policy debate on December 24, 2025, providing a platform for candidates vying for positions in the university’s student government. The event, titled “Election Battle 69,” allowed candidates from various parties and independent groups to present their visions for leading the student body and its organizations for the 2026 academic year.

The debate took place at the Student Activity Stage building, drawing a significant audience of students both in person and via a Facebook live stream hosted by the KKU Student Election Commission. Candidates for the positions of President of the Student Organization and members of the Student Council outlined their policies, competing to represent the university’s more than 34,000 students.

Asst. Prof. Prapansak Chaveerach,DVM., Ph.D Assistant to the President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization, opened the event. He emphasized the distinct but vital roles of the two main student bodies. “The Student Organization acts as the executive branch, managing budgets and key activities like freshman orientation and the KKU Games,” he explained. “Meanwhile, the Student Council serves as the legislative branch, responsible for budget approval, overseeing the work of the Student Organization and clubs, and protecting the rights and interests of all students.”

He assured all participants of the committee’s commitment to a fair, transparent, and impartial election process. He also urged all students to participate in the online election scheduled for Friday, February 2, 2026, using their official KKU Mail accounts.

Assoc. Prof. Pensri Jaroenwanit, Ph.D Vice President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization, praised the candidates for their courage, leadership, and willingness to work for the student community. “Simply stepping into this process is a proud first step,” she stated, encouraging a constructive campaign focused on policy rather than personality. She expressed confidence that the use of technology would ensure a transparent and verifiable election.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of policies, with candidates focusing on improving student life and welfare. Many proposals were aligned with the university’s official “EGGS” student identity framework, which aims to develop students who are:

  • E – Entrepreneurial
  • G – Global-minded
  • G – Growth-oriented
  • S – Sustainable-focused

The debate showcased the candidates’ readiness to take on leadership roles and reflected a broader engagement among students in shaping the future direction of Khon Kaen University.
