Khon Kaen – Khon Kaen University (KKU) extended a warm welcome to Mr. Sonam Palden, Second Secretary to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bhutan, who graciously participated in the ‘Sithan Navathara Himalayan’ event, Khon Kaen University’s annual International Loy Krathong Festival, as a representative of His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan.
This year’s festival was held under the concept of ‘Sithan Navathara Himalayan,’ which seamlessly blended the rich cultures of the Mekong River basin nations with the enduring charm and spirit of the Himalayan mountains. The event aimed to perpetuate the beautiful Thai tradition of Loy Krathong, strengthen international relations and cultural exchange, and simultaneously preserve the unique local identity of Isan.
The participation of a representative from the Kingdom of Bhutan, the nation known in Dzongkha as Druk Yul (“Land of the Thunder Dragon”), whose distinct culture is cradled within the Himalayas, perfectly complemented the theme of this year’s festival. The presence of Mr. Sonam Palden not only served to foster the excellent relationship between the two nations but also symbolised the cultural connection spanning from the Himalayas to the Mekong basin, underscoring the importance of international mutual learning and exchange.
Throughout the festival, the atmosphere was elevated by a diverse range of artistic and cultural performances, splendid processions, and activities that allowed attendees to experience the remarkable beauty of Thai, Isan, and international cultures. This fostered friendships and left a deep impression on all visitors.
