Khon Kaen University (KKU) held its annual Kathina merit-making ceremony for the year 2025 on 25 October 2025, at Wat Pa Kittiyanusorn in Song Pueai Subdistrict, Phu Wiang District, Khon Kaen Province.
Phra Kru Palad Veeranuvat (Preedee Pholyanoh) served as the monastic president for the ceremony, while Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, served as the lay president. The event saw a large turnout of administrators, faculty members, staff, students, and Buddhist devotees from various regions, who gathered to participate in the solemn occasion.
The ceremony commenced on the evening of 24 October 2025, with the Somphot Kathina (Kathina Robe Celebration) ritual. This evening featured cultural performances by famous artists from the Northeastern region (Isaan), led by National Artists Mr. Por Chalatnoi Songserm and Dr. Ratri Srivilai Bongsithiporn, along with their Mor Lam ensembles, who brought joy and smiles to the attendees.
On the morning of 25 October 2025, the official presentation of the Kathina robes began at 09:00 hrs. The President of Khon Kaen University led the procession, carrying the Kathina robes and associated offerings from the main gate of Wat Pa Kittiyanusorn. The procession circumambulated the Prathaksin (sacred area) three times before the robes were placed on the offering table in the main sermon hall (Sala Karn Parian).
Following this, the lay president conducted the official Kathina offering ceremony. The monastic Sangha then performed the Apalok ritual, followed by the presentation of the robes, accompanying offerings, and the four requisites (Jaturpachai Thai Tham) to the monks. The monks then delivered a sermon of appreciation (Anumotana) and bestowed blessings upon the attendees.
This year, the total amount donated by devotees participating in the Khon Kaen University Kathina ceremony at Wat Pa Kittiyanusorn reached 1,355,460 Baht (one million, three hundred fifty-five thousand, four hundred and sixty Baht, net). The funds will be utilised for the restoration and maintenance of the monastic buildings (Senasana) and to support Buddhist activities, ensuring the continuous propagation and preservation of the Buddha’s teachings.
