Khon Kaen University Participates in the Commemorative Ceremony on Nawamintha Maharaj Day
On Monday, 13 October 2025, Mr. Chumporn Phara, Director of the Office of Communication Affairs division, Khon Kaen University (KKU), together with university personnel representing the institution, participated in a significant ceremony on the occasion of “Nawamintha Maharaj Day”, which marks the anniversary of the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, King Rama IX of the Chakri Dynasty. The ceremony was held at the Khon Kaen Provincial Hall, and was presided over by Mr. Charin Thongsuk, Governor of Khon Kaen Province. The event was held to express loyalty and to pay tribute to the boundless and gracious benevolence of His Majesty.
Khon Kaen University joined the official provincial schedule, starting at 07:00 hrs, with a wreath-laying ceremony and tribute at Kaen Muang Conference Room, where participants respectfully laid wreaths before the royal portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. The ceremony was followed by 89 seconds of silence in remembrance of His Majesty’s profound and immeasurable kindness.
At 08:30 hrs, a Buddhist prayer ceremony and alms-giving took place at the King Rama V Monument in front of the Provincial Hall. The Governor led government officials, state enterprise employees, private sector representatives, students, volunteer citizens under royal patronage, and the general public in offering alms to monks as a royal merit-making act on this special occasion.
The participation of KKU personnel in the ceremony reflects the university’s ongoing commitment as a leading institution in the Northeast region to uphold and apply the late King’s royal initiatives in its mission to benefit the community and society as a whole.
Royal Biography and Benevolence – The Significance of the Ceremony
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (King Rama IX of the Chakri Dynasty) was born on 5 December 1927 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Massachusetts, United States of America. He ascended to the throne on 9 June 1946.
Throughout 70 years of reign, His Majesty devoted himself tirelessly to royal duties aimed at improving the lives and livelihoods of the Thai people. He initiated over 4,000 royal development projects nationwide, covering various areas such as water resource management, agriculture, environmental conservation, education, and public health. One of the most enduring legacies of His Majesty is the “Sufficiency Economy Philosophy,” which he bestowed upon the Thai people as a guiding principle for living a balanced and sustainable life.
His Majesty passed away on 13 October 2016, at the age of 88 years. The Royal Thai Government has since designated 13 October of every year as “Nawamintha Maharaj Day,” a national day to pay homage and express heartfelt remembrance of His Majesty’s unparalleled benevolence.
