Today (October 1, 2025), at the Kaen Muang Conference Hall, Khon Kaen Provincial Hall, Khon Kaen University—led by Mr. Chumphon Para, Director of the Office of Communications, together with university staff—joined the royal commemoration ceremony marking the anniversary of the passing of His Majesty King Mongkut (King Rama IV). The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Charin Thongsuk, Governor of Khon Kaen Province, with heads of government offices, the judiciary, military, police, local administrative organizations, and public agencies in attendance to pay tribute to His Majesty’s benevolence.
The proceedings began with representatives from various agencies laying wreaths in sequence. The Governor then lit incense and candles in homage to the Triple Gem and presented traditional offerings before the royal portrait, followed by the delivery of a homage address. Ten monks chanted Buddhist prayers, after which the Governor and heads of government departments presented alms and ceremonial robes (trai robes) to the monks, dedicating the merit to His late Majesty.
His Majesty King Mongkut (Rama IV), known as “the Philosopher King,” initiated national reforms, opened relations with Western nations, concluded the Bowring Treaty, promoted science and astronomy, and established the Dhammayuttika Nikaya order. He was the father of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), his successor to the throne.
