KHON KAEN – Khon Kaen University (KKU) held a comprehensive training program on Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) on June 13, 2025, aiming to enhance legal knowledge and operational efficiency among its personnel. The event drew over 160 participants, including university executives, deans, supervisors, and staff involved in data processing.
The workshop, titled “Precautions Regarding the Collection, Use, or Disclosure of Personal Data,” was organized by the university’s Legal and Corporate Communications Division in collaboration with the Legal Affairs Division and the Complaint Management Unit. The primary goal was to ensure that administrators and staff fully understand their responsibilities under the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019), thereby preventing data breaches and ensuring compliance with regulations, including those concerning international data transfers.
In his opening remarks, Asst. Prof. Tala Thammaroj, M.D., Vice President for Administration, emphasized the training’s critical importance in the digital age. “A correct understanding of the PDPA is essential to prevent risks and errors,” he stated. “This will ensure the university’s operations are legally sound, reduce legal risks, and build trust with individuals who provide us with their personal data.”
Mrs. Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Vice President for Legal and Communications, added that the program was designed to address an urgent need for clarity on the law. “We want all personnel to be able to perform their duties confidently, understanding the correct principles for handling personal data appropriately and effectively. This will ultimately improve the quality of our services and overall university operations,” she said.
The full-day program featured two key sessions. The morning lecture on general precautions for data handling was delivered by Assistant Professor Prapanpong Khumon (PhD), Dean of the School of Law at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. In the afternoon, Dr. Kitt Tientanopajai, Assistant to the President for Digital Affairs at KKU, led a session on the practical application of the PDPA when establishing academic service collaborations or contracting with external IT vendors.
The university expects that the training will equip its leadership and staff with the knowledge to handle personal data securely, understand legal liabilities, and align the institution’s data protection practices with international standards.
