KKU Community Unites to Increase Green Space at Chao Pho Modindaeng Shrine

Khon Kaen University Continues Green Campus Initiative with Community Tree-Planting Event

Khon Kaen University (KKU) administrators, faculty, staff, and students gathered on August 28, 2025, for a tree-planting event at the Chao Pho Modindaeng Shrine, continuing the university’s “Plant Love, Plant Trees, Build Green University Bonds” project. The initiative aims to sustainably increase green space on campus while fostering environmental awareness and a stronger sense of community.

The event, organized by the Student and Alumni Relations Division, was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Pensri Charoenwanich, Vice President for Student Affairs and Innovative Commercialization. The atmosphere was marked by a vibrant spirit of collaboration among the KKU community members in attendance.

“Today’s activity is not just about planting trees to increase our green areas, but also about instilling a positive sense of environmental stewardship in our students and staff,” said Dr. Pensri. “These trees will symbolize the growing bond between us and the university, aligning with our ‘Green University’ policy and our goal of achieving Zero Carbon. We are creating a pleasant environment and passing on a sustainable world to the next generation.”

The project was supported by the Mahasarakham Provincial Nursery Center, which provided over 20,000 high-quality saplings for the initiative. Dr. Pensri extended her gratitude to the center and invited all university faculties and departments to participate in the ongoing greening effort.

This marks the third event in the “Plant Love, Plant Trees” series, demonstrating the university’s sustained commitment to the cause. The first planting took place during the Teacher’s Day ceremony at the Golden Jubilee Convention Hall, and the second was held during the launch of the “KKU EGGS Lounge.”

The ongoing project underscores KKU’s dedication to promoting community involvement in environmental care, enhancing the campus landscape, and improving the quality of life for everyone at the university.

Faculties or departments interested in obtaining saplings to plant in their respective areas are encouraged to register their interest.
