KHON KAEN – Khon Kaen University (KKU), in collaboration with the National Science Museum (NSM), successfully hosted the National Science and Technology Fair and Regional National Science Week 2025 from August 18-20, establishing its role as a central hub for scientific learning in Thailand’s northeastern region. The three-day event, held across three main university venues including the Golden Jubilee Convention Hall, drew a total of 66,577 attendees.
Operating under the theme “Science in Action for Sustainable Community,” the fair aimed to inspire interest in science, technology, and innovation among youth and the general public. The event served as the final stop for the NSM’s “science caravan,” which brought a host of engaging exhibits to the region. Highlights included “The Rocket Maker: Isan Inspiration,” showcasing how local wisdom can form the basis for international innovation, and “SPORT SCIENCE ON THE MOVE,” which explored the intersection of athletics and science.
During the opening ceremony, Khon Kaen Vice Governor Mr. Phanthep Saokosol welcomed participants, stating that hosting the national event reflects the province’s potential as an academic and learning center for the Northeast. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, added that the event underscores the university’s commitment to fostering a new generation of talent to drive regional and national progress.
The fair featured a wide array of activities, including academic exhibitions from at least 49 public and private organizations. A significant portion of the event was dedicated to honoring the Thai monarchy’s contributions to science, with exhibitions dedicated to King Rama IV, revered as the “Father of Thai Science”; King Rama IX, the “Father of Thai Technology” and “Father of Thai Innovation”; and His Majesty King Rama X.
To further engage young minds, the event also hosted numerous academic competitions for students. These included science project contests, quizzes, a water rocket competition, and science communication talks. Organizers reported that 2,248 students from 339 schools across the northeastern region participated in these competitions.
The event was supported by several key bodies, including the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and The Science Society of Thailand Under the Patronage of His Majesty the King. Mr. Suwarong Vongsiri, Acting Director of the NSM, praised the collaboration and emphasized the fair’s goal of allowing everyone to experience science in a hands-on, engaging manner to enhance the nation’s competitive capabilities.
