On August 14, 2025, the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, organized an activity to enhance artistic experiences for people with disabilities at Sri Sang Wan Khon Kaen School. Faculty members and students joined the program to share and exchange knowledge in art creation, while also providing a space for people with disabilities to learn, practice, and freely express themselves through a variety of hands-on art workshops.
At the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Burin Plengdeesakul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, presided over the event, joined by faculty members who came to encourage participants. They were warmly welcomed by Mr. Supachai Prasertnu, Director of Sri Sang Wan Khon Kaen School, along with the school’s teachers. The atmosphere was filled with smiles, warmth, and determination from all sides to make this activity a source of inspiration.
Assoc. Prof. Burin emphasized that the project aims to promote and create opportunities for people with disabilities to engage directly in art activities, developing their communication skills, creativity, and emotional expression. It also helps build self-confidence, reduce social barriers, and create spaces for mutual understanding. Participants not only gain artistic skills that could be developed into hobbies or future careers, but also encouragement and inspiration from creating their own works of art. Moreover, the project fosters exchange and learning among people with disabilities, students, and faculty, helping to strengthen understanding and social acceptance. It also represents collaboration between the university, the community, and educational institutions, using art as a medium to improve quality of life on an equal basis.
The activities included painting, clay sculpture, designing artworks from recycled materials, and art therapy workshops that helped participants relax and learn to communicate through creativity. A special exhibition showcased artworks created immediately after the workshops, allowing participants to take pride in their abilities.
This project was not only about creating art but also about creating opportunity and hope for people with disabilities—aligning with the mission of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, to use art as a tool for sustainable social development.
