On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the Learning and Teaching Innovation Center at Khon Kaen University hosted the final round of the “KKU AI Prompt Battle 2025,” a Generative AI image and video prompt-writing competition designed for undergraduate students. The event was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, and was attended by executives, faculty members, and more than 40 students. The competition took place at the 2nd-floor hall of the Information Center Building, Office of the University Library.
A highlight that captivated all participants was the opening presentation: a virtual video speech featuring a realistic simulation of an executive address, presented on a large LED screen. The speech, generated using generative video technology, simulated Asst. Prof. Anucha Somabut, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for Education, and served as a live demonstration of how AI can be meaningfully integrated into learning-centered activities. In his virtual remarks, he outlined that the KKU AI Prompt Battle 2025 was established to provide students with a platform to showcase their skills in writing prompts and to promote responsible use of Generative AI through both training and live competition. He emphasized that the activity is more than a contest—it is an opportunity for students to exchange ideas, experiment with AI creatively, and gain practical experience across artistic, technological, and analytical domains.
In his opening address, Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., noted that the event was an excellent platform for students to develop their creativity through hands-on practice. He expressed hope that this competition would become the beginning of a continuing tradition—laying the foundation for future editions of KKU AI Prompt Battle that foster innovation and sustainable outcomes through AI.
The competition’s atmosphere was filled with excitement and determination. Finalists were tasked with creating both images and videos under the theme “The Identity of Khon Kaen University Students.” Their work had to reflect the university’s EGGS identity framework, which stands for Entrepreneurial (creative and entrepreneurial thinking), Global-minded (a vision with international perspective), Growth-oriented (commitment to continuous self-development), and Sustainable-focused (dedication to social and environmental sustainability). Contestants had 20 minutes to generate an image using Canva AI, and 45 minutes to create a video using Google AI Studio and Gemini Veo 3. They also had to present and explain the prompts they created.
Serving as judges were Ajarn Kulachet Lekprayura, Director of the Learning Development Office at Bangkok University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wattana Pattanagul, Director of the Learning and Teaching Innovation Center at Khon Kaen University; Asst. Prof. Pipat Reungsang, Director of the Office of Digital Technology at Khon Kaen University; Dr. Pat Kotchapakdee, Assistant to the Dean for International and Communication Affairs, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts; and Assoc. Prof. Tanatchaporn Kittikong, Associate Professor of Performing Arts and Head of the Performance Practice Program at the same faculty. These experts offered guidance and adjudicated the competition to identify the most outstanding work.
In the image category, the BABY LION team won first prize and received a 4,000 Baht cash award. In the video category, the team Phiicha ai prompt mai ja was awarded the top prize along with a 6,000 Baht cash award. The Phiicha ai prompt mai ja team, composed of third-year students Mr. Nansaphat Termsap, Mr. Anawin Uthaisang, and Mr. Thappayothin Wisnuyothin from the College of Computing, expressed their joy and surprise at winning the competition. They shared that their concept was inspired by the deeper meaning of “Mor-Kor-Kai” (the egg symbol of KKU), which represents more than a single idea but rather a combination of diverse identities. They were proud of their video and believed this experience would benefit their academic and personal growth.
They also remarked that having such a space at Khon Kaen University was valuable, especially as AI tools will continue to play a vital role in the future. Since first experimenting with video AI tools, they had seen significant improvement in their skills, and they hoped to participate in future events to further develop their AI capabilities.
The BABY LION team, consisting of first-year student Mr. Yathawat Jangchan from the Faculty of Education and Mr. Nattakorn Srichon and Mr. Phumipat Hema from the College of Computing, shared that they had practiced extensively from the qualifying rounds through to the final. After receiving the prompt, they carefully analyzed the KKU identity theme and applied advanced techniques to define clear main characters, select fitting locations, design appropriate gestures and costumes, and balance light and shadow. They emphasized the importance of visual style and thematic interpretation as essential elements of their work. They believed that these skills gave them an advantage and felt proud to receive the award as first-year students. Looking ahead, they expressed interest in continuing to join such competitions to improve their expertise in prompt writing and creative AI content generation.
All winning entries and submissions are available for viewing on the Learning and Teaching Innovation Center’s Facebook page. Visitors are encouraged to “like” their favorite works and contribute to the selection of the Popular Vote winner. Voting is open until midnight on July 20, 2025.
