The Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast, through its QSHC CPR unit, recently hosted the final two sessions of the “Renew Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)” course for 2025. Held from June 5–6, 2025, the training aimed to refresh and update the advanced life-saving skills of nursing staff, combining essential theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice.
The course focused on core components of cardiac emergency care, including:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Electrocardiogram (EKG) interpretation
- Use of clinical algorithms for diagnosis and treatment
- One-person ACLS management
- ACLS Megacode drills
Participants engaged in practice across four ACLS simulation stations designed to enhance precision and speed in responding to critical cardiac emergencies.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pattarapong Makornwes, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Queen Sirikit Heart Center, emphasized the importance of this biennial training:
“ACLS renewal is essential for nurses to maintain clinical standards in cardiovascular emergency care. It also reflects the Heart Center’s mission to elevate patient care in accordance with international standards.”
The ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification is a globally recognized program aimed at reinforcing healthcare professionals’ readiness in managing acute cardiovascular emergencies. Targeted at physicians, nurses, pharmacists, radiologic technologists, and other healthcare providers, the course provides mid- to high-level life support training.
The curriculum includes:
- Assessment and management of cardiac arrest
- Treatment of arrhythmias
- Use of defibrillators and electrical pacing
- Airway management
- Emergency drug and fluid administration
Additional emphasis is placed on team dynamics, effective communication, and rapid decision-making under pressure.
Participants also receive updated knowledge in managing acute myocardial infarction, stroke, and other life-threatening conditions. This comprehensive approach ensures that medical professionals are fully equipped to provide top-tier care in intensive care units (ICUs), emergency departments (EDs), cardiac units, and other critical care settings.
The Queen Sirikit Heart Center continues to uphold its commitment to excellence in cardiovascular care, both through advanced clinical services and continuous professional development.
