KKU Promotes Local Product Development in Ubonrat District to Strengthen Grassroots Economy and Sustainable Livelihoods

On May 26, 2025, the Enterprise and Social Sustainability Division of Khon Kaen University, through its Center for the Promotion of Enterprise and Social Sustainability, led by Ms. Waraporn Pioppanngam, Deputy Director of the Center, visited the Dong Design community enterprise in Ban Dong Subdistrict, Ubonrat District, Khon Kaen Province. The team was assigned by the Vice President for Enterprise and Social Sustainability and joined by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pornnarong Channuwong from the Faculty of Architecture.

The visit focused on holding a collaborative discussion on developing the identity of local products with the Leaf-Print Textile Weaving Group, known for its nature-printed shawls and fabric bags under the “Dong Design” label.

This initiative was carried out in cooperation with the Rattanapha Women and Family Development Learning Center, led by Mrs. Oytip Toemat, the Center’s Director, along with civil servants and officials. Also in attendance were Mrs. Prapaporn Wongsakul, head of the textile group, and over 30 group members, who warmly welcomed the KKU delegation.

The meeting aimed to enhance product identity by aligning with local wisdom and upgrading product quality for market competitiveness. Key areas of focus included improving textile design, expanding sales channels, and strengthening marketing efforts both domestically and internationally. The initiative is in line with Khon Kaen University’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in advancing inclusive economic growth and community empowerment.

This field visit reflects KKU’s ongoing efforts to bridge academic knowledge with real-world application, helping to build strong, self-reliant communities. It also underscores the university’s role in driving sustainable grassroots economic development and creating new opportunities for local livelihoods.
