Multidisciplinary student teams collaborate under the 2026 GSB Yuwaphat Rak Thin Programme to transform traditional herbal wisdom into market-ready digital assets.
Khon Kaen University (KKU), through the Office of Academic Service, has announced the operational progress of a joint student task force from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy. Operating under the “2026 GSB Yuwaphat Rak Thin Programme”—a strategic partnership between Khon Kaen University and the Government Savings Bank (GSB)—the initiative encourages students to apply theoretical classroom knowledge to resolve practical challenges and drive tangible community development.

The current phase of the project focuses on product innovation and capacity building for the Ban Dong Klang Herbal Processing Community Enterprise, located in Phra Yuen District, Khon Kaen Province. This intervention aims to equip the local enterprise with the tools required to compete sustainably in modern digital marketplaces, directly aligning with KKU’s core mission as an institution dedicated to social devotion. The latest field deployment builds upon a comprehensive community potential analysis presented to the GSB committee in April, aiming to elevate indigenous herbal wisdom into standardized products that appeal to contemporary consumers. Backed by verifiable scientific research, the project team is focusing on products designed to refresh the body, thereby establishing consumer confidence and opening commercial avenues within youth and young professional demographics.

Following a field monitoring visit on 8 June 2026, the joint student task force reported significant developments across four core operational pillars:
Four Pillars of Sustainable Community Enterprise Development
-
Product and Packaging Innovation: Students from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences have finalized flavor profiles in coordination with the community enterprise. A sensory test is scheduled during the next field visit on 16 June 2026 in Phra Yuen District to compare effervescent herbal tablet formulations with and without effervescent agents, gathering direct feedback from target consumer groups. Furthermore, standardized packaging guidelines for both sachets and boxes have been established, accompanied by hands-on training to allow enterprise members to manage the packaging process independently.
-
Omni-Channel Digital Marketing: The Management (MGT) student team from the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy has implemented a comprehensive digital marketing strategy to scale the enterprise from local trade to national e-commerce platforms. Key milestones include:
-
TikTok: Launched an official account under the brand “Kao Sian Herbs” (สมุนไพรเก้าเซียน), utilizing an educational and storytelling content matrix. The team aims to secure 1,000 followers to unlock TikTok LIVE and TikTok Shop capabilities.
-
Shopee: Scheduled the launch of an official online storefront to broaden countrywide market access.
-
Facebook: Onboarded additional community administrators to maintain consistent content distribution and consumer engagement.
-
-
Community Digital Literacy: To ensure long-term operational autonomy, the student team has prioritized knowledge transfer. Local operators received professional training in video production, camera composition, and product presentation. The revised roadmap emphasizes regular video content creation and includes live-streaming practice sessions at physical exhibition booths, allowing community members to independently manage digital storefronts after the project concludes.
-
Financial Governance and Analytics: The Finance (FIN) student team designed a simplified financial ledger template tailored for users without a formal accounting background. The matrix logs revenues from online storefronts and physical trade shows while tracking exact manufacturing costs and operational expenses. This allows the enterprise to evaluate net profit margins transparently, embedding systematic governance into their expansion plans.

Integrated Impact on Higher Education and Society
The progress achieved by the Khon Kaen University student teams under the 2026 GSB Yuwaphat Rak Thin Programme demonstrates the impact of cross-disciplinary collaboration in community service. By merging pharmaceutical expertise in formulation technology with the digital marketing and financial management skills of business students, the initiative has successfully created a comprehensive community business ecosystem.
Khon Kaen University remains committed to deploying academic knowledge, scientific research, and practical innovation to drive sustainable grassroots development. Transforming local assets into standardized, modern commodities generates stable income streams for Phra Yuen District, reaffirming KKU’s position as a premier university for society.
