Khon Kaen, Thailand – The Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast hosted “IC Day 2026 and World Hand Hygiene Day” on May 6, 2027, to advance infection prevention and control measures within the hospital.

The event, attended by over 200 medical personnel, nurses, and other interested individuals, was held at the Nopadol Thongopit Conference Room in the Heart Center building.

Associate Professor Dr. Patrapong Makornwes, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University and Director of the Queen Sirikit Heart Center, opened the event. In his opening remarks, he delivered a lecture on “Vaccination for Cardiovascular Protection,” highlighting the role of vaccines in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. This was followed by a session on common hospital-acquired infections and their treatment protocols.

The primary objective of the event was to emphasize the critical importance of proper handwashing as the most effective fundamental measure for reducing the spread of infections.

The program featured lectures from various experts on several key topics, including heart disease prevention through vaccination, the current status of hospital-acquired infections, and nursing guidelines for infection control. Sessions also focused on developing hand hygiene practices to meet international standards and sharing best practices. A presentation titled “Road to Asia Pacific Hand Hygiene Excellence Award” was also featured.

In addition to the lectures, a hands-on wound care workshop was conducted. This practical session allowed participants to practice correct techniques for both preventing and treating wounds, enhancing skills that can be directly applied in their daily work.
