KKU Showcases ‘Financial Well-being’ Model at National Healthy Campus Conference, Highlighting Link Between Student Finances and Mental Health

Khon Kaen University, through the Health Promotion and Welfare Section of the Student Development and Alumni Relations Division, captured attention at the national academic conference, “Healthy Campus Conference for Promoting Health and Well-being.” The event, held at the Nimman Convention Centre in Chiang Mai on 13 February 2026, featured a presentation by KKU on “Developing a Support Mechanism for the Financial Well-being of Student Loan Fund (SLF) Students,” introducing a new dimension to holistic well-being care.

The presentation, led by Ms. Jutharat Saisakul, Ms. Umarin Honghern, and their team, emphasised the direct relationship between financial stress and mental health issues among students. This topic aligned closely with the conference’s main theme, which focused on promoting well-being across all dimensions.

Ms. Jutharat Saisakul, a representative of the presentation team, explained the core concept: “We look beyond merely providing loans; we aim to foster mental resilience and financial discipline so that KKU students can develop into high-quality individuals in every aspect of their lives. If we can ensure the stability of their finances, we can also safeguard their mental and physical health, preparing them to become quality graduates for society.”

To translate this vision into concrete action, the KKU team proposed a three-pronged policy framework:

  • Policy: To incorporate “Financial Well-being” as a key student health indicator.
  • Scale-Up: To expand the “Proactive Care Model” from the Student Loan Fund (SLF) group to the general student population.
  • Collaboration: To integrate the databases of financial and psychological support services into a Single Database for more connected and effective care.

The academic conference was co-organised by Chiang Mai University and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth). It served as a prominent platform for knowledge sharing, featuring insights from distinguished experts that reinforced a holistic understanding of well-being. Key sessions included:

  • Organisational Well-being Policy, by Mr. Pongsak Thongratana (ThaiHealth).
  • Addressing Cigarette and E-cigarette Issues, by Assistant Professor Dr. Witchate Kasemsup, M.D.
  • Promoting Mental Health through Mindfulness and Positive Psychology, by Dr. Thanita Wasaprasong.
  • Encouraging Physical Activity, by Associate Professor Dr. Jirakrit Leelarungrayub.

KKU’s presentation was not only a means of sharing an innovative approach to student care but also a testament to its alignment with the broader well-being knowledge discussed at the national level. It reaffirmed the importance of supporting students comprehensively—physically, mentally, socially, and financially—in the journey towards becoming a true “Healthy University.”
