On 24 December 2025, Khon Kaen University (KKU) organised a policy debate for candidates contesting positions in the University’s student government. The event, titled “Election Battle 69,” provided a platform for candidates from various parties and independent groups to present their visions and policy agendas for leading the student body and its organisations in the 2026 academic year.
The debate took place at the Student Activity Stage building, drawing a significant audience of students both in person and via a Facebook live stream hosted by the KKU Student Election Commission. Candidates for the positions of President of the Student Organization and members of the Student Council outlined their policies, competing to represent the university’s more than 34,000 students.
The event was opened by Assistant Professor Prapansak Chaveerach, D.V.M., Ph.D., Assistant to the President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialisation. He highlighted the complementary yet distinct roles of the two student bodies, explaining that the Student Organization functions as the executive branch, responsible for budget management and major student activities such as freshman orientation and the KKU Games. In contrast, the Student Council serves as the legislative body, tasked with budget approval, oversight of student organisations and clubs, and safeguarding student rights and interests.
He reaffirmed the Election Commission’s commitment to a fair, transparent, and impartial process, and encouraged all students to take part in the online election scheduled for Friday, 2 February 2026, using their official KKU Mail accounts.
Assoc. Prof. Pensri Jaroenwanit, Ph.D Vice President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization, praised the candidates for their courage, leadership, and willingness to work for the student community. “Simply stepping into this process is a proud first step,” she stated, encouraging a constructive campaign focused on policy rather than personality. She expressed confidence that the use of technology would ensure a transparent and verifiable election.
A key highlight of the debate was the presentation of policies, with candidates focusing on improving student life and welfare. Many proposals were aligned with the university’s official “EGGS” student identity framework, which aims to develop students who are:
- E – Entrepreneurial
- G – Global-minded
- G – Growth-oriented
- S – Sustainable-focused
The debate showcased the candidates’ readiness to take on leadership roles and reflected a broader engagement among students in shaping the future direction of Khon Kaen University.
