Khon Kaen University (KKU) hosted a promotional event to generate excitement for the official international race, targeting over 10,000 participants.
On 8 November 2568, at 17:00 hrs., Khon Kaen University organised the “Khon Kaen International Marathon 2026 Meet & Greet” press conference at the Agricultural Technology Park, Khon Kaen University. The event aimed to promote the upcoming race and generate enthusiasm among runners nationwide before the main competition. A large number of runners and media representatives attended the event.

The press conference commenced with a welcome address delivered by Assoc.Prof. Piyawat Foytong, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for Physical Ecosystem and Environment.
Following the welcome, Mr. Sukij Sirinorakul, Chairman of the Khon Kaen University Council Promotion Committee, delivered the opening remarks. This was followed by a ceremony to present plaques to the programme’s main sponsors and a prize draw for lucky runners. The highlight of the evening began at 18:00 hrs. with a 2.5-kilometre fun run around the Agricultural Technology Park in a pleasant, cool atmosphere.

Mr. Sirinorakul stated that the 21st “Khon Kaen International Marathon 2026” is the largest international running event in the Northeast region. This year holds special significance, featuring “Three Royal Trophies” bestowed by His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen, and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The Khon Kaen Marathon is the only marathon in Thailand to have received such high honour. Furthermore, the event holds international certification from AIMS, allowing runners to use their scores to qualify for world-class marathons, such as the Boston and Tokyo Marathons. He also noted that the registration system has been improved this year to be faster and more secure.
The competition is scheduled to be held on 10–11 January 2569:
10 January: Fun Run 5.4 km, divided into Elite Fun Run, General Fun Run, and Kids Run (for children aged 6 and above). Activities for Children’s Day, hosted by the KKU Faculty of Education, will also take place.
11 January: Main competitions, including:
- Full Marathon (42 km), starting at 03:00 hrs.
- Half Marathon (21 km), starting at 04:00 hrs.
- Mini Marathon (10 km), starting at 04:45 hrs.
This year, special prizes have been added for the top 10 Thai runners in the Full Marathon category. The organisers are targeting over 10,000 participants, with registrations already received from 51 countries worldwide.
Regarding readiness, medical teams, nurses, and ambulances are stationed at every designated point, supported by military and police officers to ensure convenience. Water stations are available every 2 kilometres, and post-race services, including massage teams from the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences and physiotherapists, will be provided after runners cross the finish line.
Mr. Sirinorakul warmly invited interested individuals and runners to “experience the cool weather and warm atmosphere of Khon Kaen province between 10–11 January 2569.” He expressed gratitude to all supporting sectors, including Khon Kaen Province, the Municipality, the Provincial Administrative Organisation, various banks, the Hotel Association, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, for their continuous support in ensuring the event’s ongoing success.
