The Queen Sirikit Heart Center, part of Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine, held its annual fire prevention and suppression drill on September 8, 2025. The exercise was conducted in collaboration with external agencies, including the Khon Kaen University Fire Department, the Regional Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center 6, and local rescue units.
The drill simulated a realistic fire scenario, beginning with a fire originating in an office area on the third floor. The hospital initiated its emergency protocols, first issuing a “Code Yellow” before escalating to a “Code Red” to signal a full evacuation of staff and patients via fire escapes to a designated assembly point.
A critical component of the drill involved medical and nursing teams evacuating critical patients from wards located on floors four through nine. The evacuation down the fire escapes was closely supported by rescue teams, ambulances, and fire trucks from the participating agencies.
According to the center, the drill proceeded smoothly and successfully demonstrated the staff’s capability to manage an emergency and ensure the safe evacuation of patients, in alignment with the hospital’s Joint Commission International (JCI) safety standards.
