Khon Kaen University Partners with Thai Senate to Support Legislative Process

BANGKOK – Khon Kaen University (KKU) has entered into a formal partnership with the Secretariat of the Senate to integrate academic and research findings into the national legislative process. A five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for academic cooperation was signed on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the Parliament Building.

The agreement aims to leverage KKU’s academic expertise to assist the Senate in its core duties, including the review and scrutiny of draft legislation, the monitoring of government administration, and the oversight of organizations as mandated by the constitution. The collaboration is intended to provide senators with comprehensive, research-based information to facilitate more thorough and well-rounded decision-making on national issues.

The partnership will focus on four key areas:

  1. Data Systems: Developing a database to analyze, search, and link research and academic information for direct use in policy-making and the legislative process.
  2. Personnel Development: Organizing joint training programs, study visits, and knowledge exchange initiatives using information technology.
  3. Budgetary Support: Providing mutual financial support within the scope of each party’s responsibilities.
  4. Resource Development: Enhancing library and academic resources to support research and study at both institutions.

The MOU was signed by KKU President, Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, and the Secretary-General of the Senate, Mrs. Pannita Satanpaibop. Prof. Pewpan Maleewong, KKU’s Vice President for Research and Innovation, attended the ceremony as a witness.
