College of Computing, KKU, Opens the 3rd Computing Fair: Fusing Disciplines for Thailand’s Future

On August 18, 2025, the College of Computing at Khon Kaen University held the opening ceremony of the 3rd Computing Fair under the theme “Fusion Intelligence: Empowering Interdisciplinary Collaboration” at the Auditorium of the KKU Science Park. The ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Pensri Jaroenwanit, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization.

In her welcome remarks, Assoc. Prof. Sirapat Chiewchanwattana, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Computing, explained that the Computing Fair aims to promote and encourage the integration of knowledge across disciplines, enhancing the skills and potential of students, lecturers, and researchers. The event featured academic activities, competitions, and digital technology exhibitions, while also serving as a platform for collaboration among educational institutions, private companies, and organizations at both national and international levels.

Assoc. Prof. Pensri Jaroenwanit emphasized that this year’s fair truly reflects the College’s determination to advance knowledge in information technology and artificial intelligence, empowering them to play a vital role in the holistic development of society. She further noted that the fusion of disciplines and AI technology will be the key to preparing Thailand’s workforce for future changes. The Computing Fair provides an important venue for participants to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and showcase innovations through keynote lectures, exhibitions of research outcomes in collaboration with public and private sectors, as well as pitching sessions and Hackathon competitions with industry partners.

The academic session began with a keynote by Mr. Piyawat Jriyasetapong, Chief Commercial Officer, Thaicom Public Co. Ltd., who delivered a lecture on “A Fusion of Disciplines: The Future of Thailand’s Workforce in an AI-Driven World”, sharing real industry insights and strategies to prepare Thailand’s workforce for the AI era. This was followed by Mr. Surapon Petch-vra, Vice Chairperson of the University Council and former Thai Ambassador to Chile, who spoke on “The Impact of AI on Thai Society”, offering policy perspectives and international experience on how Thai society can adapt to the transformations brought by AI.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ruttikorn Varakulsiripunth, member of the Thai-KOSEN Advisory Committee under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, gave a lecture on “Collaboration between Higher Education, the Private Sector, and International Partners in Driving Digital Innovation.” He expanded on the importance of building academic networks and ecosystems that link all sectors together and promote sustainable knowledge transfer for national development.

Krungsri UniVerse x KKU Hackathon – TourTech Challenge

One of the highlights of the fair was the Krungsri UniVerse x KKU Hackathon: TourTech Challenge – Reinventing Thai Tourism with Technology, organized in collaboration with Bank of Ayudhya PCL. The competition challenged students to design financial and digital banking innovations, offering them an opportunity to solve real-world business problems, work as a team, and create practical, scalable solutions.

A distinguished panel of judges included Pramuk Jamjantuek, Head of Innovation, Bank of Ayudhya PCL; Asst. Prof. Dr. Surapol Vorapatratorn, School of Information Technology, Mae Fah Luang University; and Sawarin Liamwattanakul, Business Development Expert and Digital Transformation Consultant, Digik Technology Co. Ltd. Teams competed for prizes totaling over 50,000 baht.

  • The First Prize (30,000 baht) went to the team “I’m the Boss”, consisting of Suphawat Khaitong and Ratthapoom Koetprajeen (College of Computing, Computer Science), Supawir Mathusen, Natthawat Kaewnoppajit, and Wasu Chuenchom (Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, Digital Entrepreneurship).

  • The First Runner-up Prize (20,000 baht) went to team “P.D.A.B”, made up of Sirikan Netphukkanat, Waranya Thakham, and Napats Kaewsikhao (College of Computing, Cybersecurity) and Ranjana Boonrasri (Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, Service and Event Management).

  • The Second Runner-up Prize (10,000 baht) was awarded to team “plz I need Champ”, composed of Pananan Phantasri (AI), Orjira Saenta (Computer Science), Watcharawit Chaiplueam (Computer Science), Weerapat Kaewkamla (Computer Science), and Thanachot Sirisamran (Digital Entrepreneurship and Marketing Technology).

FusionX: AI x DE Innovation Challenge

Another featured competition was FusionX: AI x DE, where students from the Artificial Intelligence Program, College of Computing, joined forces with those from the Digital Entrepreneurship Program, Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy to co-develop AI-based innovations and applications. Using design thinking, innovation development methods, AI technical expertise, and business planning, the teams created solutions addressing social issues and business opportunities.

  • The First Prize (3,000 baht) was awarded to Group G07 for “Emergency Patient Motion Monitor”, an AI system for detecting movement in emergency patients. Team members included Thanarat Sae-hia, Krisanapong Songkramsong, Thanathorn Boontem, Phakawat Choochotirot, and Phinattkanin Phisitkul (AI), together with Khemika Saemthong, Paweena Jeansawang, Wisnuwat Hemaphan, Kanyaporn Kangjanta, and Oranong Kakaneppa (Digital Entrepreneurship).

  • The First Runner-up went to Group G01 for “AI-based Cattle Estrus Management System”, an AI solution for livestock breeding management. Members were Suraphot Hinsri, Piyapat Rattanarak, Pongskorn Manadee, and Thanadet Watreebunrueang (AI), alongside Phrewa Srihanam, Poompat Donsophon, Chonlakorn Rueangwachirapanya, Pramin Sopathum, Kamonchanok Patthapong, and Kantathorn Srihirun (Digital Entrepreneurship).

  • The Second Runner-up was Group G10 for “AI Voice Pre-Screener for Dementia”, a system using speech and AI to detect early signs of dementia. Team members included Yanathorn Boonlue, Ekarat Kamphu, Thibodin Intra, and Thanaphat Sapphasa (AI), together with Thanabodi Wisetdonwai, Peerawit Thongpong, Tassanee Manomai, Nanthiya Salat, Rattanakorn Ketpimon, and Nipitphon Pimchan (Digital Entrepreneurship).

All three winning projects demonstrated how AI-powered innovations could be applied to real-world challenges, ranging from emergency healthcare and livestock farm management to early dementia screening for the elderly.

NVIDIA Special Workshop and Digital Innovation Showcase

The Computing Fair also featured a special workshop by NVIDIA titled “From Hours to Minutes: Accelerate AI Computing, Scientific Computing and Gene Sequencing with NVIDIA SDKs.” Held at The Beegins room, the workshop allowed participants to experience how advanced GPU technology can dramatically accelerate computing processes, reducing workloads that typically take hours to just minutes. The session highlighted how high-performance computing connects and accelerates cross-disciplinary research in AI, data science, biology, and medicine.

Alongside the competitions and workshops, the fair presented a digital innovation exhibition showcasing AI applications across different fields, including:

  • AI-based Behavioral Monitoring in Laboratory Mice (College of Computing in collaboration with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences),

  • AI-assisted Lifting Handling Risk Assessment (College of Computing with the Faculty of Public Health),

  • AI-assisted Assessment of Impacted Canine Teeth (College of Computing with the Faculty of Dentistry).

Industry leaders such as Betagro Public Co. Ltd., Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL, NVIDIA (Thailand) Co. Ltd., PTOA Center Co. Ltd., and Lenovo (Thailand) Co. Ltd. also presented applications of AI in industry.

The 3rd Computing Fair was held from August 18–19, 2025, serving as a major platform to showcase advancements in information technology and foster collaboration between academia, industry, and students in driving Thailand toward a sustainable digital future. Special thanks were extended to the Khon Kaen University Science Park for hosting the event.
