KKU’s AMS Achieves Global Recognition with Prestigious ISO/IEC 17025 Certification

The Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences at Khon Kaen University (AMS, KKU) is celebrating a major milestone in its pursuit of excellence. The faculty’s Infrared Spectroscopy Laboratory has been awarded the prestigious ISO/IEC 17025 certification, a testament to its world-class standards and capabilities. This achievement, under the leadership of Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jureerat Daduang and her dedicated team, marks a significant step forward for medical research and innovation in Thailand.

The certification was formally presented by Dr. Rungruang Kitphati, Director-General of the Department of Science Service, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), at a ceremony on February 24, 2025. The event was attended by key figures from both the public and private sectors, highlighting the importance of this accomplishment.

“This is a moment of immense pride for our faculty,” stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jureerat Daduang. “This certification not only validates our commitment to international standards but also empowers us to conduct groundbreaking research that will directly improve the lives of people in the Northeastern region and throughout Thailand.”

The Infrared Spectroscopy Laboratory, a key part of the Center for Innovation and Standards in Medical Technology and Physical Therapy, directed by Dr. Molin Wongwattanakul, received certification for its expertise in analyzing kidney stone components. Specifically, the lab can accurately identify calcium oxalate monohydrate, uric acid, and magnesium ammonium phosphate. This certification is valid from August 2, 2024, to August 1, 2028.

Dr. Molin Wongwattanakul emphasized the broader impact: “Achieving ISO/IEC 17025 certification from the Department of Science Service under MHESI is a critical step. It builds confidence in our analytical capabilities and lays the groundwork for future advancements in medical technology.”

Prof. Dr. Patcharee Jearanaikoon, an advisor to the Center, explained the direct benefits for patients: “By using internationally certified infrared spectroscopy to analyze kidney stone components, physicians can diagnose and treat patients with greater precision and speed. This will significantly enhance the quality of care for individuals suffering from kidney stones in our region.”

The certification was formally received by Prof. Dr. Patcharee Jearanaikoon and Dr. Patutong Chatchawal, representing the Faculty and the Center. This recognition solidifies Khon Kaen University’s position as a leader in medical innovation, driving progress in healthcare and contributing to the sustainable development of medical and public health services for all Thais.
