Friday June 21, 2024, at FA Theater, KKU – Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, joined the Indonesia Embassy; the Cultural Office of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of Indonesia; and the Cultural Performance Co. ltd. to host the 7th IndoFest 2024. The event, from June 21 to 24, 2024, was organized to celebrate the Thailand and Indonesia 75 years of diplomacy, the 60th Anniversary of Khon Kaen University, and the 30th Anniversary of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts.
The morning was the opening session and a workshop. Asst. Prof. Burin Plengdeesakul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, welcomed the distinguished guests, administrators, lecturers, artists, and students from KKU, Kalasin University of Dramatic Arts, Kalayanawat School, Phon School, Khon Kaen. The workshop was about the musical instruments of Indonesia, the traditional dances of Indonesia from the Northern Sum Sumatera, “Condang” Music and “Tor Tor” Dance Performance.
In the afternoon session, Assoc. Prof. Chupong Thongkhamsamut, Ph.D., Vice President for Infrastructure and Environment, Khon Kaen University, welcomed H.E. Rachmat Budiman, the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand and the delegation. Asst. Prof. Suksanti Waengwan, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for Art, Culture and Creative Economy and Asst. Prof. Burin Plengdeesakul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, joined in welcoming the distinguished guests and participants.
Assoc. Prof. Chupong Thongkhamsamut, Ph.D., Vice President for Infrastructure and Environment, Khon Kaen University thanked H.E. Rachmat Budiman, the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand for his visit, and thanked Dr. Prapassorn Wongratanapitak from the Contemporary Culture, Co. Ltd. for bringing the special performance of IndoFest 2024 to Khon Kaen University. “We are grateful for the organization of this event, which also celebrates the 60th Anniversary of Khon Kaen University and the 30th Anniversary of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. The students from the Faculty, the teachers and students from schools in Khon Kaen, who attended the morning workshop and learned about Tor Tor Culture from the North of Sumatra, are preparing their presentation soon. This is the first cultural and art cooperation in Isan that will lead to long-lasting friendship between Thailand and Indonesia. It is certain that the participants today are enjoying the performances and cultural exchanges, on the occasion of the celebration of the 75th diplomacy between Thailand and Indonesia next year. Congratulations to all who are the representatives of the good friendship between the two countries.”
His Excellency Rachmat Budiman, the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand said, “On behalf of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok Thailand, I’d like to thank Khon Kaen University for the support and nurturing of Indonesian art and culture. The Indonesian Embassy joins UTLY THAI Kansadeng Wattanatham Co., Lid. to organize the IndoFest 2024 on June 21-24, 2024. The workshop is held for attendants to learn about Indonesian folk music, Batak Gondangan Tor Dance, the traditional dance of Indonesian islanders. It is a good chance to meet Khon Kaen people today and celebrate the 75 years of diplomacy of the two countries next year.”
The event also featured the beautiful dancing performance of the students of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. The next performance was the Tortor dance, which the workshop attendants had the chance to join the “Tor Tor” dance on stage.
