Friday July 31, 2020 at the Meeting Room, 4th Floor, 50th Anniversary Wisawa Ruamjai Building – Graduate School Khon Kaen University held the 2019 Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan research and award presentation ceremony for outstanding research and alumni. Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan, former Vice Chairman of Khon Kaen University Council presided over the ceremony and conferred the awards. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University made an opening address. Prof. Surasak Wongratanacheewin, Ph.D., Dean of Graduate School made a report speech. Over 70 lecturers, administrators and prize awardees attended.
Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan research and award presentation ceremony for outstanding research and alumni is aimed at acknowledging the renowned deeds of graduate students and alumni in different fields including benefits carried out for the community.
Prof. Surasak Wongratanacheewin, Ph.D., Dean of Graduate School explained that Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan research and award presentation ceremony has continuously been held for 9 years. We are honored that Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan came to give the awards every year. The prizes are like a mental support to students of the Graduate School, their supervisors and alumni.
“This year, the awardee of Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan’s award of the PhD level is Dr. Vasakorn Treedech, from Mechanical Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering of Khon Kaen University. The thesis title is “The Study on Design and Development of Biofuel from Bagass Using Circulated Fluidized Bed Reactor”, which was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Rachapon Santiwarakorn, Ph.D., Dean of Faculty of Engineering. The Graduate School also selected 8 outstanding graduate level alumni from the academic year 2019, and 19 graduate students whose theses are at the outstanding and good levels as the prize awardees, divided into 7 awardees at doctorate degree level and 12 awardees at masters’ degree level.”

“I am grateful to Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan, who honors us to confer the honor awards upon the awardees today. The awards are like the support behind the work of the students whose works will benefit the country in the future. The honor thesis award by Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan also shows the Professor’s attachment to Khon Kaen University and will mentally support researchers of the university to create useful works for the society. Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan has always taken part in driving Khon Kaen University to develop the country in many aspects, including for instance, education, health, agriculture. Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan has greatly dedicated himself to Thailand and Khon Kaen University. I believe that the awards today will inspire our personnel and students to develop research work for the country.”
Dr. Vasakorn Treedech, who receives the 2018 honor thesis award from Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan explained that the Study on Design and Development of Biofuel from Bagass Using Circulated Fluidized Bed Reactor arose from the idea to transform farm residues such as rice straw, rice husks, sugarcane leaves and shoots, which are abundant in Thailand into biofuel that will efficiently replace the conventional fuel. This will also add to the incomes of farmers and add to the alternatives in the management of biofuels in Thailand for high diversification.
“During the research, the most discouraging time was the experiment that did not turn out as expected. I had to study related research work again and again. This lasted for nearly one year. It was like going around and around the work with my supervisor. Then finally I did it. It is only that you do not give up. I’m very happy and honored with this award. I am grateful to Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtra-ngan and Khon Kaen University for the prize. Now, my research work has been published continuously. There are students at the masters’ degree and doctorate levels who have extended the research work in development of the machine. Besides, some private organizations and sugar mills also contacted us. However, we have to make everything stable before we can join these enterprises.”
