The celebration of Khon Kaen’s 222nd anniversary shows the unity of Khon Kaen people moving the city forward
On November 28, 2019, KKU staff joined the traditional dance to worship Khon Kaen City Pillar Shrine on occasion of International Silk Festival, “Pook Xiao” Tradition, and Red Cross Fair 2019 at Khon Kaen City Pillar Shrine. The traditional worshiping dancing was greatly participated by Communication Affairs Division, KKU Library, Law Division, Human Resource Division, Executive Secretary Team, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Medicine, College of Local Administration, and Faculty of Nursing. KKU administrators attending the dance consisted of Mrs. Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Assistant to President for Special Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supawatanakorn Wongthanavasu, Dean of College of Local Administration; Dr. Aunejit Panthongviriyakul, Nurse Supervisor of Department of Medicine at Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine; and Asst. Prof. Donchai Srisumran, Deputy Director of Satit Mor Din Dang School, Secondary Education Affairs.
Mrs. Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit said, “I’m very happy and proud to be one of Khon Kaen people, especially working at Khon Kaen University, and also be a part of this great ceremony of Khon Kaen. It is the first year that KKU staff officially join the traditional dance to workship the God of Khon Kaen City Pillar Shrine. We are from different offices and faculties. This is a good start to promote KKU’s image and develop better relationship with external organizations. In the next year, Special Affairs of President Office will be the center facilitating KKU staff for the traditional worshiping dance. I’d like to invite everyone to join us in the dance, and express my gratitude to all KKU staff joining in this dance. We have greatly succeeded, so I believe that everyone who are here today will be happy with the good deeds they’ve done and have strong, contented minds.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supawatanakorn Wongthanavasu revealed, “Khon Kaen University is located in Khon Kaen. Our mission is to support Khon Kaen development in the form of academic aspect, research, and activities beneficial to the city because KKU is a part of national development. The fantastic activity celebrating 222nd anniversary of Khon Kaen should therefore be attended by KKU. We are proud to be a part of Khon Kaen, the northeastern region, and force moving Thailand forward.”
Dr. Aunejit Panthongviriyakul stated, “the Sacred City Pillar Shrine has existed along with Khon Kaen’s history. This is the first year that I participated in the dance. It is an auspicious occation, and I’m very happy. Khon Kaen University enthusiastically collaborates – there are many organizations from KKU supporting this celebration. Personally, I’d like to join the traditional dance again next year. I’d like to invite KKU staff to join this wonderful and auspicious occasion with Khon Kaen Province.”
Asst. Prof. Donchai Srisumran said, “On behalf of Khon Kaen University, I participate in code display design for Khon Kaen’s 222nd anniversary. The code display need plenty of dancers and should be taken the shot from the high top view. How to arrange people to stand in the letter pattern is challenging, so it’s necessary to create the pattern in the computer first. From the study, Khid design is the origin of all Thai fabric pattern design. There is collaboration from Khon Kaen Vocational College students as well as students from other schools. They came to rehearse in the evening for many days before the ceremony started. Today the code display is very satisfying. It can be seen clearly from the top view showing this great dancing parade through press and media. I’d like to invite KKU staff or offices to join this annual event of Khon Kaen because Khon Kaen University is the main university of the northeastern region.”
Almost 100,000 people joined the dance to worship 10 sacred things existing along with Khon Kaen’s history and to celebrate the 222nd anniversary of Khon Kaen. The dance was performed on 5 routes around the City Pillar Shrine – Srichand Road, Pracha Samran Road, Darun Samran Road, Teparak Road in the area of Khon Kaen City.
