In a breathtaking fusion of tradition and innovation, the Performing Arts Department of Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, in partnership with local educational institutions and the vibrant community of Sakon Nakhon, unveiled a mesmerizing cultural extravaganza. This spectacular event marked the opening of the 2024 Prasat Phueng Festival, captivating audiences with a stunning light and sound show titled “Trace of Faith for Prasat Phueng: Our Love for Sakhon Nakhon.” The performance took center stage at the iconic King Rama V Monument Square in That Choeng Chum Subdistrict, Mueang Sakon Nakhon District, on October 12, 2024.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Pongsathon Yoddumnoen, a visionary from Khon Kaen University’s Performing Arts Department, shared insights into the performance’s inspiration. Rooted in the enchanting theme “Charms of Sakhon,” the show drew from the rich cultural tapestry of Sakon Nakhon Province. It celebrated the timeless tradition of Prasat Phueng offerings and the profound cultural heritage that defines the region. The narrative wove together tales of love, curiosity, and the enduring quest to unravel the mysteries behind the intricate Prasat Phueng, a legacy cherished through generations.
The performance was a vibrant tapestry of artistic expression, seamlessly blending the ancient art of indigo dyeing, the craftsmanship of Prasat Phueng making, and the grace of traditional martial arts. It also highlighted the historical landmarks and tourist attractions of Sakon Nakhon, all brought to life through a theatrical masterpiece that celebrated the region’s rich arts and culture.
This grand production was orchestrated by the Institute of Language, Arts, and Culture at Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, in collaboration with Khon Kaen University’s Performing Arts Department. The ensemble cast featured 150 talented performers, including students from the Performing Arts Department, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, Thatnaraiwittaya School, and cultural network partners. The script and direction were masterfully crafted by Assistant Professor Dr. Pongsathon Yoddumnoen, ensuring a performance that resonated with both heart and soul.
