KKU collaborates with 5 Institutions to present the magnificent Khon Performance “Phra Ram Ratcha Suriyawong” in Honor of King Rama X’s 72nd Birthday Anniversary

Thursday, July 25, 2024 – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Phanthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University (KKU), presided over a Khon performance in honor of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, King Rama X, on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 72nd birthday anniversary. The event took place at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts Theater at Khon Kaen University and attracted a large number of university administrators and interested public.

The activities commenced at 1:00 PM with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai delivering a tribute speech to His Majesty King Rama X. Following this, there was a dance performance titled “Rama Arsiara Vadhaprasat” and the Khon performance titled “Phra Ram Ratcha Suriyawong,” jointly presented by Khon Kaen University, Mahasarakham University, Roi Et College of Dramatic Arts, Kalasin College of Dramatic Arts, and Nakhon Ratchasima College of Dramatic Arts.

The event, organized by the Khon Kaen University Cultural Center in collaboration with cultural network partners, lasted for 1 hour and 50 minutes and featured over 100 performers. The Khon performance “Phra Ram Ratcha Suriyawong” depicted the story of how Lord Shiva, upon learning of the chaos caused by the demon king Ravana among gods and humans, decided to send Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi to be born in the human world to alleviate the suffering and restore order. With the help of gods and dedicated warriors, Phra Ram overcame various adversaries, ultimately bringing justice and prosperity to the kingdom. The performance not only honored King Rama X but also highlighted the importance of just governance and collective effort in achieving national prosperity.
