KKU signs MOU to deploy China-Laos-Thailand economy, aiming at academic progress with special Isan economic strategy

April 26, 2024 – Khon Kaen University, represented by Dr. Akkaporn Kokkhangphlu, a lecturer of the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy and Head of the Strategic Development and Study Project of the China-Laos-Thailand Economic Corridor: The Northeast Special Economic Corridor, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kunming South Asia & Southeast Asia International Logistics Research Institute (SSILR), Republic of China; Center for China Studies, Research; Academic Service Office, National University of Laos; and Yunnan Tengjin Logistics Co., Ltd., Republic of China. The MOU, on Cross Border E-Commerce & New Technology, is aimed at deploying economy of the multi-network in education and strategic development of the economic corridor of China, Lao PDR, and Thailand. The signing ceremony took place at The Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok.

Dr. Akkaporn Kokkhangphlu, a lecturer of the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy and Head of the Strategic Development and Study Project of the China-Laos-Thailand Economic Corridor revealed that the MOU has been signed as a result of the concrete outcomes of the research and study project on development of collaborative strategy of China, Lao PDR, and Thailand, under the Northeast Special Economic Corridor. On Khon Kaen University’s part, the faculty responsible for the work to be carried out under this MOU is the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, which is collaborating with the academic institutions abroad including the Think Tank Company of Thailand and renowned private companies of the Republic of China and the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos. The MOU emphasizes 7 issues.

The objectives of the MOU are to: build a research collaborative network; develop instruction; exchange students and academic staff members; support and prepare educators who are knowledgeable, competent, and can meet the needs of the job market at present; promote students in their readiness to hold an occupation; develop the competency and knowledge of students and educators according to the standards of the parties that have signed the MOU; develop educational quality and human resources in parallel with the national policies in economy and society from the competitive competency of all parties; enhance the competency of staff members to be able to catch up with technological changes and meet the needs of the institutions that signed the MOU; and promote the student quality to be ready to enter the job market. Certificate, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs will be developed as well as opportunities of personnel and students to join academic activities. There will be sharing of information, research documents, publications and collaboration of research on trades and investment in the area along the Northeast Economic Corridor so that economic areas in China, Lao PDR and Thailand will be connected.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is on deployment of the economic corridor under the collaboration of the network in academic and strategic development of collaboration of China-Lao Thailand economy and on cross-border E-commerce & new technology. The signing ceremony was organized by the Area Administrative and Fund Management Unit and the Office of National Policy Council of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The event was held on April 25-26, 2024. In the afternoon session of April 26, there was a workshop on the direction of development of the areas along the special economic corridor of the 4 regions, and on the area mechanism of science, research, and innovation.
