June 12-13, 2023 – Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University joined the Project to promote physical and mental health and access to service to the fragile community group in Nong Bua Lamphu. The event was under the name: “Dental Service, Sharing Love, Sharing Spirit by SMILES for EVERYONE“ and was carried out at the Conference Room of Nong Bua Lamphu Primary Education Service Office Area 2, Na Klang District, Nong Bua Lamphu Province.
Asst. Prof. Ajiravudh Subarnbhesaj, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Education of the Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University explained that the collaboration in this project was in accordance with the objective of the Faculty of Dentistry and Khon Kaen University, the University of creativity and development for the society. This time, the faculty’s dentists and staff were sent to carry out the project in Nong Bua Lamphu.
Up to now, the Faculty of Dentistry has regularly carried out the mobile dental service every month in order that oral health care and treatment reach underprivileged people in remote areas.
“This time, the dentist team provided services in checking primary oral health to the target group, providing treatment in filling, removing tartar, giving sealant coating, and pulling. Some cases were checked and sent to the hospital in the area for further treatment. Most cases, children in general, were found with tooth decay and needed tartar removal. At the same time, the dentists provided knowledge about oral health care to the parents.”
Mrs. Ratanamanee Huadseng, the Social Development and Human Security Head Officer of Nong Bua Lamphu added that this project was carried out as the welfare to the people especially the fragile group so that they were able to use their right for access to dental care. At the same time, the oral health problem was administered for the wellbeing and improved quality of life of the people.
The “Dental Service, Sharing Love, Sharing Spirit by SMILES for EVERYONE“ was held for two days on June 12-13, 223. The target group included children, the elderly and the disabled groups.
Miss Duangrudee Wongphutorn, a citizen of Nong Bua Lamphu said that she took her niece to have oral health check because normally they do not visit any dentist. This was the first time the niece had received dental care and treatment. She felt happy for her niece to receive the care from the professional dentist. “I would like such good project to continue every year so that children can have the oral check and have access to safe and quality treatment.
All through the two days of service, 426 people received the oral health care, including 2 for dental check-up, 116 for pulling, 123 for fluoride coating, 98 cases of filling and 85 cases of tartar removing
