KKU gears up its transformation plan to urge full potential operation

KKU administrative team will excel its innovative administration plan seeking to exercise strategic plan in place of the direct monitoring and tightening of regulations.

One of the challenges that a big university as KKU has to confront is the question on how to promote workflow and career efficiency. In order to correct this matter, KKU new administrator team has pledged to the university council in running the KKU transformation plan.

Asst. Prof. Thara Thamarote (MED.), an acting vice president for administration, said the areas of improvement need to be implemented to promote workflow in KKU as detailed below.

1. Reframing of school of thoughts, outdated regulations and office cultures should be made superseded.

2. Changing of working process, turning away from bureaucratic system to a private section style of administration for faster connectivity at work.

3. Work efficiency analysis, promote the eradication of obsolete working process and replace it with newer and effective technology.

When asked about the concrete change that has already taken place at KKU under the new administration, Asst. Prof. Thara said that administration hierarchy was altered after the new presidency’s term. Obviously, the two former positions of vice president; the vice president for plans and strategy, the vice president for budgeting were merged into a single position known as, a vice president for administration. This position cares for three main tasks including, strategy, money, and personnel. This is effective change because, being under the same roof, the strategy team and the monetary team can work more collaboratively to craft the university’s all rounded development.

Also outlined in a four-year management reformations plan are the following strategic changes.

1. Promoting strategic analysis: As mentioned above, the replacement of old and obsolete work progress and rules with the new and more effective strategies is set as a new culture for organizational development. In April, 2019, KKU introduced the Objective Key Result (OKR), which is a planning system used in private administration, to its administration. The process involves KKU offices in setting potential goals. KKU is also a the very first university to employ LEAN Management system for its operations.

2. Authority distribution: KKU offices are encouraged to empower their staff to promote workflow. In the past, the people responsible for materials and monetary units faced the most problem on decision making. The administrators at each office have to think of the solutions. Formerly, the three offices—Finance, Materials, and Monetary—each had its own separated pieces of data which makes collaboration among the three groups difficult. Under the new administration, these three areas are merged together to promote fast and effective connection at work.

3. Creating new business model: KKU has based its administration on the principles embedded in the Thailand Quality Class (TQC) Award which emphasizes on 11 dimensions of administration, 2 areas for administrators and 9 for system management. It is important for the leader to provision and properly establish plan into the future. Having systematic vision is equally important for the administrators to see how everything is interconnected and how making change in one particular area will lead to the changes in other connected parties. The nine areas of system management endorse the importance of client needs which should be observed by the leader. The university has to find measures to keep potential workers while promoting professional development among its working bees. To reach sustainable development, KKU has been long obliged in its work for social dedication.
