The objective of academic service for the society is sustainable development, and this is one of the important missions of the Faculty of Sciences, Khon Kaen University. It is carried out in parallel with program instruction and research as well as creation of scientific and technological innovations, which are an important foundation in the leaping and sustainable deployment and development of economy and society of the country. The Faculty has carried out academic services in the form of scientific camps or activities that promote scientific knowledge and skills to teachers and school students since 2004. Primary and secondary schools in the Northeast have continuously contacted different departments of the Faculty to conduct training and supplementary activities for their students in the topics of their interest. In addition, many students have come to learn at the laboratories of the different departments as these laboratories are fully equipped with tools and personnel.
Since there are more and more schools in the Northeast interested to participate in the activities arranged by the Faculty, from 2013, the Faculty began to carry out a project to promote scientific and technological knowledge and skills for school students, including different fields, namely biology, physics, mathematics, microbiology, and biochemistry. Ever since the project started, teachers and students of many schools in the Northeast have applied to attend the activities under this project until now.
Thus, on February 18-19, 2023 – the Faculty of Sciences organized training for 150 high school students and their teachers from two schools: Wanornniwas Secondary School, Sakonnakhon and Banphai School, Khon Kaen, at the Faculty of Sciences, Khon Kaen University.
The training on the two days featured the following:
February 18, 2023 – 45 high school students and their teachers from Wanornniwas Secondary School, Sakonnakhon were trained in biochemistry workshop on the topic: “Extraction of DNA Plasmid from Bacteria and Analysis and Screening Sizes of DNA Plasmid with Agarose Gel Electrophoresis” and in microbiology on the topic: “Staining Bacteria and Microscopic Study”. The training was organized at SC.07 Building.
February 18-19, 2023 – 92 high school students and their teachers from Banphai School, Khon Kaen attended the following workshops: in physics on the topics: “Moment of Inertia and Rotation” and “Sound Resonance in Air Tunnel” at Physics Laboratory, SC.08 Building; in chemistry on the topics: “Titration of Acid-Base and Preparation of Standard Base Solvent” and “Stoichiometry” at SC.08 Building; in biology on the topic: “Diversities of Plant Planktons and Animal Planktons” at SC.03 Building; and in biochemistry on the topic: “Extraction of DNA Plasmid from Bacteria and Analysis and Screening Sizes of DNA Plasmid with Agarose Gel Electrophoresis” at SC.07 Building.
