‘Farming Frogs in Smart Farm’ – promoting occupation towards an enterprise

“University-based Entrepreneur Development Project” and the workshop on “Commercial Smart Farm for Frog Farming”

Thailand and agriculture have been hand in hand for a long time and farm produces are still Thai’s major export products. The government’s Thailand 4.0 policy has changed from Traditional Farming to modern farming or Smart Farming, with an aim to make farmers richer and become an entrepreneur.

May 8-10, 2019 at Northeast Science Park Main Building – Khon Kaen University Business Incubator Center held a workshop on “Commercial Smart Frog Farm”. Dr. Apirachai Wongsriworapon, Deputy Director for Activities of Khon Kaen University Science Parks gave a welcoming speech to participants and opened the workshop. Over 40 people participated.

Smart Farm is the major policy in the agricultural development strategy under the 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2012-201). The farm integrates modern technology with farming in order to solve difference problems faced by farmers. The Commercial Smart Frog Farming” workshop was supported by Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. Its objectives are to enable participants to apply the knowledge of smart farm to raise frogs for utmost benefits and to prepare the target group towards becoming entrepreneurs. The participants received information related to biology, ecology, frog raising, application of smart farm in frog farming, use of EM (Effective Microorganisms) mixed with chicken manure to create balance of water and get rid of smell in frog farms. Participants also had a chance to train in the real farm. The workshop experts included Ajarn Kampon Thaiso, a lecturer of Department of Fishery of Faculty of Agriculture, Asst. Prof. Bandit Sawanyawisut, a lecturer from Faculty of Business Management and Accountancy, KKU who ran the workshop on occupational investment, business chance analysis, marketing management and selling technique, financial management, and financial analysis; and Khun Sujittraporn Wongsrikaew, Managing Committee Member of Dee Prom Wittaya Co.Ltd.
