Demonstration School, KKU, and the Forest Rehabilitation Project for conserving flora, building green zone and enhancing pupils’ experience in plant taxonomy

August 17, 2022 – Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Section (Faculty of Education) held an activity: “Forest Rehabilitation Project for Conserving Flora”. The activity was aimed at creating a green zone and rehabilitating deteriorating wood land. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University presided over the activity opening session, while Assoc. Prof. Sumalee Chaijaroen, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Education and Acting Director of Khon Kaen University Demonstration School delivered the reporting speech, about the objectives of the activity.

Assoc. Prof. Sumalee Chaijaroen reported, “The Faculty of Education and Khon Kaen University Demonstration School are carrying out activities that promote the Faculty’s organizational leading strategies with the objectives to deploy the implementation towards excellence and the Objective Key Results (OKRs) related to the 7th Strategy: Building the University as a Great Place to Live. The next objective meets the second strategy of Building Green Zones and Rehabilitating Deteriorating Wood Land. The place, after rehabilitated, will be a resource for increasing learning experiences in plant taxonomy from the multiplicity of plants. The other objective is to conserve flora resources on campus. The activities organized under this project have been cooperated very well by lecturers, officers, parents, pupils and organizations inside and outside Khon Kaen University until the objectives are met.”

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said in his opening address, “I appreciate the Faculty of Education and the Demonstration School for carrying out the activities effectively, both for organizing the workshop on “Plant Taxonomy and Cultivar Conservation” and the training on how to make a leaf grinder and produce planting materials, which were already completed. The activity today, in planting cash crops and rehabilitating forest area, also meets the University’s developmental strategy on “Making the Campus a Great Place to Live”. Besides restoring, nurturing and adding green areas on campus, the activities also promote a learning resource for plant taxonomy in the University, which in the future will be open to serve the community as another learning resource.”

The activity: Forest Rehabilitation Project for Conserving Flora featured:

  • A workshop on “Plant Taxonomy and Cultivar Conservation”
  • Making a leaf grinder and producing planting materials
  • Planting cash crops to develop and rehabilitate wood land on KKU campus, which was organized on August 17, 2022.

All activities had the objectives to add to the green space and to rehabilitate the deteriorating wood land area on campus, as well as to create a venue to increase experiences in plant taxonomy, the multiplicity of plants and plant resource conservation.
