IRDTP joins Teach For Thailand to promote the present-world developmental activities for educators

December 14, 2021 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Room 101, the Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Khon Kaen University – An MOU was signed for development of educators among the Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, the Mathematics Studies Program of the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, and Teach For Thailand Foundation. HE. Suraphon Phetwara, Vice Chairman of Khon Kaen University Council, and the advisor of the Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN presided over the opening ceremony.

Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., KKU Vice President for Education and Academic Service, and acting Director of the Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN signed the MOU for Khon Kaen University, while Khun Wichitphon Phonphok, Administrator and Founder of Teach For Thailand Foundation signed for Teach for Thailand Foundation.

Among honorary witnesses of the MOU signing were: Dr. Thawarat Sutabutr, Distinguished Advisor of the Teach For Thailand Foundation and a member of Khon Kaen University Council; Asst. Prof. Sermsak Sumanon, M.D., a member of Khon Kaen University Council; Prof. Monchai Duangchinda, Ph.D., Vice President for Research and Graduate Study; Assoc. Prof. Paiboon Daosodsai, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science; Asst. Prof. Narumon Changsri, Ph.D., Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the  Education Graduate Program in Mathematics, Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University; and Khun Ronnarong Khankhaeng, Head of the Training and Supporting Division of Teach For Thailand Foundation. There were others joining the MOU signing ceremony via Zoom.

Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., KKU Vice President for Education and Academic Service, and acting Director of the Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN gave a reporting speech, which can be concluded as follows: The MOU is effective for 5 years from December 14, 2021 until December 14, 2026. The objectives are to develop the students of the program and the teachers of the Teach For Thailand Foundation with the following details: 1) to create collaboration among the University and the private sector as the entrepreneur in development, training and activities that answer the present-day needs, 2) to enable the University and the private sector with experience to join in training students, teachers, educators, and interested public, 3) to join in research and development of instruction and training that answer the needs of entrepreneurs, 4) to promote life-long learning for the new generation who have not graduated in education in order to learn and work in the teaching circle, 5) to collaborate in preparing potential graduates for teaching in remote areas or in the educational underprivileged areas in order to lessen the gap and build equity to all in terms of education. The collaborative activities comprise: 1) design and train under projects and activities that meet the objectives of all parties and adjust the implementation plan so that it is appropriate all through the MOU life, 2) provide trainers and experts to support instruction and training, 3) manage and coordinate works of all parties concerned and carry out other operations so that everything is smooth and meets the requirements of the training, the project and the activities. In addition, the two parties are to locate funds to support education, while IRDTP will campaign for funds for non-degree programs operated by IRDTP and the masters’ degree program in mathematics study. The Faculty of Education locates fund for 5 teachers of the Foundation who are studying in the program, and the Teach For Thailand Foundation will select 5 teachers each year for this purpose.

“The collaboration will prove that Khon Kaen University sees the importance of Education Transformation, Academic Service Transformation, Collaboration/ Coordination Projects in order that the University will be a learning resource and the Center of Social Wisdom. The academic service will be transformed from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to Creating Shared Value (CSV) from this collaboration,” said Assoc. Prof. Maitree.

At the end, Dr. Thawarat Sutabutr, Distinguished Advisor of the Teach For Thailand Foundation and a member of Khon Kaen University Council; Asst Prof. Sermsak Sumanon, M.D., a member of Khon Kaen University Council and Prof. Monchai Duangchinda, Ph.D., Vice President for Research and Graduate Study congratulated the institutes that signed the MOU for academic collaboration.
